Elizabeth Jean SpriggsĀ -Manson (nĆ©e Williams) was an English character actress.
Her roles with theĀ Royal Shakespeare CompanyĀ included Nurse inĀ Romeo and Juliet, Gertrude inĀ HamletĀ andĀ BeatriceĀ inĀ Much Ado About Nothing. In 1978, she won theĀ Olivier AwardĀ forĀ Best Supporting ActressĀ forĀ Arnold Wesker'sĀ Love Letters on Blue Paper.
Her best known role in film was as Mrs. Jennings in Sense and Sensibility (1995), for which she received aĀ BAFTAĀ nomination forĀ Best Supporting Actress. Her other films include Richard's ThingsĀ (1980),Ā ImpromptuĀ (1991),Ā Paradise RoadĀ (1997) andĀ Harry Potter and the Philosopher's StoneĀ (2001).
